ISES’ Inside Scoop on NYC Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – By Allison Kastner
International Special Events Society’s New York Metro Chapter (ISESNY) was lucky to have been offered tickets for its members to preview the venue for New York City’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2013. Thanks to George Kong of Karl’s Event Services, which put together the pop up venue, and to ISES NYC’s past President Deb Roth of The Originators, we had an exclusive tour of the space.
What impressed us most was how permanent the pop-up venue looked. The carpeted floors, the staircases leading to a sitting area and café and to a demo area for hair care company TRESemm’e, all made us feel that this space had been at Lincoln Center all year round. Mr. Kong noted that even though the tents go up each year, the inside décor is always re-imagined to give the event a fresh look. There was also a Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge, where meetings for the models and designers were held. Inside, it was clear the event was totally connected, with several monitors showing the current live fashion shows in the other tents.
Also inside the tent, several sponsors distributed giveaways, including Samsung Galaxy, Maybelline, American Express, EBay Now, Style Network, WGSN, TRESemm’e, Beck’s Sapphire, DHL and, of course, Mercedes-Benz.
In front of the tent, outside Lincoln Center, photographers, reporters, bloggers and onlookers were waiting to get a glimpse of the fashionistas and models entering the venue. Inside the main tent we got a better look at the outfits, the new spring lines, accessories and colors that were just magnificent and over the top. The best part about seeing the different styles was seeing who was rocking the clothes, and catching a glimpse of famous celebrities and fashion designers. We spotted actress Katie Holmes, who has her own fashion line, as well as designer Rachel Zoe.
This tour was a great part of being in the event planning industry and show us why maintaing good relationships with our vendors and clients can have its perks! Make sure you’re an ISES member so you can enjoy these members-only perks in the future.Comments ( 139 )
